Backstory Info
Feltein Fastburn has a complicated relationship with fire. Through the teachings of his circle, he learned to respect, appreciate, and control fire. And before the “accident,” he was quiet, thoughtful, and helpful to those around him. So when his town burned down, the WHOLE town, while he was out on a hunt, it felt PERSONAL. He came back to smoldering ruins, burnt bodies, and complete destruction.
Even his dwelling and workshop were reduced to ash. Disbelief, rage, panic, grief…. He could comprehend almost nothing in the moment, not even thoughts of past or future. He left after a few grueling minutes, worried he would be blamed. Not wanting to answer the questions that would surely be asked of him. He didn’t have the strength, and what would he tell them anyway?
It wasn’t until months later, after secluding himself in a nearby forest, that some substantive memories started to creep back in. The memories are blurry, tainted with his rage and panic, but something was off about what he remembers he saw.
The burn of natural fire doesn’t end the way those buildings ended up. And he could have sworn he remembers a flash point centered near his workshop, almost like a crater. But there was nothing in there, absolutely nothing, that could have caused that kind of damage. Not even to his workshop, let alone the whole town. Let alone the people within it.
Was someone targeting him? Or his work? Was it the town? Or someone else in it? He wanted answers, but he couldn’t go back. So he focused on his work. He’s never had any real family, nor friends really, but that was his home. He felt comfortable and safe there. He was useful and helpful, and that gave him a sense of purpose.
He doesn’t necessarily seek revenge, that isn’t how he or his Circle operates, but the “why” is something that may not ever go away…..
